Metroid Dread Nintendo Switch Review
Overview
Metroid Dread is a great 2d installment of the Metroid series it costs $60 but I would 100% get it for anyone who loves the Metroid games. The story and gameplay take place on planet ZDR with Samus being hunted by E.M.M.I. The EMMI are robots that are very strong that can kill you in one hit, or you can counter their grab to escape them. There are a few different game modes as well, such as boss rush mode and dread mode. In dread mode, if you get hit once, it results in a game over. The story takes place after the events of Metroid Fusion, there is also the X parasite that returns in this game, but I won't spoil too much. A fun fact about this Metroid game is that it was not made by Retro studios but by MercurySteam instead, who made Samus Returns for the 3Ds.
Story
Throughout the story in Metroid Dread, you try to gain your abilities back while working your way through new environments. Samus goes to planet ZDR to investigate a mysterious video transmission that showed the deadly X parasite. The Main villian of the game are not the space pirates but are actually the EMMI robots and the Chozo called Raven Beak. Samus works with her ai companion called ADAM, who gives her advice throughout the story on where to go next. The environments vary from underwater labs to volcanoes and lush jungles. The story is very long too, with it taking roughly 9 to 12 hours to beat.
Gameplay and controls
The gameplay is smooth, and the controls are well put together for Samus. She can slide underneath enemies, counter, and even have a 360 degree free aim to fire on enemies. Overall the gameplay is nice; finding hidden missile tanks and energy tanks is a treat to find. There are many bosses throughout the game that you can fight, each with a unique fight pattern. When exploring the new environments, you travel by elevator, trams, or even teleporters. Usually in Metroid games you loop back to old areas so you can progress into new ones. There is also amiibo support within the game that gives you extra missile tanks or energy tanks, and the amiibos look very well designed.

Final Thoughts
Overall, Metroid Dread is a great starting point into the franchise if you have never played a Metroid game before. If I had to rate this game, I would rate it a 10/10 a well-made game by MercurySteam, with lots of replay value.
