2025 My thoughts on the Nintendo Switch 2!

Hi everyone, I know it has been a while since I uploaded a Nintendo Switch game review. I am trying to work on this blog again and get back into the rhythm of it. However, today I wanted to talk about the Nintendo Switch 2 and why I think it is a waste of money right now. Back when it was announced on January 16th, 2025, I was excited at first; however, that soon turned into dread upon hearing more details. Such as the price right now, which is $449, which is crazy to think about. When the Nintendo Switch OLED came out, it was priced at $350, which is a lot cheaper; however, it is not in 4k.  The second main complaint I have about the Nintendo Switch 2 is that a few games are doing the game key card idea, which in my opinion is so brain dead. Why Nintendo is going down this road is beyond me. I would also like to say that Nintendo is starting to price their games at different prices, which is not helpful for consumers. Such as Donkey Kong Bananza, which costs $70, not to ment...

Is Donkey Kong Country Good for kids? Nintendo Switch Review.

Overview

Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze first came out on the Wii U, and then it got ported over to the Nintendo Switch. It is a full-priced game costing $60 on the eShop, but sometimes you can find it cheaper at video game stores. There are six main worlds that you can explore and a seventh secret world that you can unlock once you do everything in each level. There is also an unlockable hard mode that you can play through the game again on at this difficulty. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is also made by the studio Retro Studios, which Nintendo owns. The graphics of the levels look really well done, especially the returning silhouette levels. Retro's newest Donkey Kong game is called Donkey Kong Bananza, which returns to a 3D perspective like in Donkey Kong 64. I will write a review on that game soon when I buy a Nintendo Switch 2 at some point.

Gameplay and Controls

The controls of Donkey Kong Country are pretty similar to the last game that came out on the Wii. You can roll, pound the ground, and ride your animal buddies. There are also different characters you can play as, such as Funky Kong, Cranky Kong, or Dixie Kong. Each one has unique abilities, such as hovering for longer, swimming faster, or being able to bounce on spikes. There is also Funky's shop, where you can buy items to help you in levels. Such as balloons, squawks, DK barrels, and heart boosts.

When you pretty much 100% the game, you unlock hard mode, in which you can play the game again but on a harder difficulty.

Final Thoughts

I find that this Donkey Kong Country game is very fun to play a few times throughout the year. Especially during the colder months, like near the holiday season. Which can make it very festive! Overall, I would rate it a 7/10 very fun I cannot wait for Retro's next 2D Donkey Kong game.
