Jurassic World Evolution Nintendo Switch Review
Overview
Jurassic World Evolution is a simulated park-building game where the objective is to build up a park with many dinosaurs in it. Some of the key takeaways are hatching dinosaurs while making sure that guests are happy and safe, which is another important mechanic. You will need to feed the dinosaurs and make sure that they are enclosed, as well as have the same species within that enclosure. Not only can you hatch dinosaurs, but you can also research new species and modify them before they are hatched. For the dig sites, they are all over the world for finding fossils that you can sell or extract DNA from.
There is a story mode that you can play through that will take you through different islands based off of the movies. Graphically, it looks quite well and runs pretty decently on the Nintendo Switch, especially the OLED model. This game is full-priced at $59.99, but sometimes it will go on sale; you might be able to find it cheaper secondhand at game stores.
Gameplay & Controls
Jurassic World Evolution's gameplay is pretty straightforward. You incubate dinosaurs while maintaining a park for humans and making sure that they are engaged with the specimens. While we are talking about the Nintendo Switch version, the controls are very simplified. Over the course of playing throughout the story or sandbox, as such. You will be using your controller to fly helicopters and drive cars around the park. On the first island you will also learn about contracts in three main divisions: science, entertainment, and security. Each one serves a different purpose, such as security, where you may have to put dinosaurs against each other. When you complete a contract, you get rewarded with money and sometimes reputation. The islands will sometimes have strong storms that will damage buildings or break the dinosaurs out of their enclosures. This can be a very fun mechanic, but after a while it will just be plain annoying.
Gameplay Video & Photos
Here is a short video of a little bit of gameplay and a few select photos of in-game screenshots. (I quickly built this park in sandbox mode to show you what a park could look like without unlimited money.)
Final Thoughts
My final thoughts about Jurassic World Evolution are that it is an okay game but can get very repetitive after a while. I would highly suggest it as a maybe buy since there are two sequels already, but only if you missed out on the first experience and want to experience it. On the plus side, it does come with all DLC, which is nice. Overall, I would rate it a 7/10.
