Grid Autosport Nintendo Switch Review
Grid Autosport on Nintendo Switch – A Deep Dive Review
Grid Autosport is a serious racing game that brings console-quality simulation to the Nintendo Switch. Originally released in 2014, the Switch version holds up surprisingly well and offers a great mix of realism and accessible gameplay — think Forza Motorsport, but in the palm of your hands.
Gameplay & Controls
Grid leans more toward simulation-style racing than arcade. You’re not just gunning for first place — you're learning how to handle a car on different terrains and managing your speed, cornering, and braking. It features dozens of cars from manufacturers like BMW, Ford, Mazda, and Subaru, each with distinct handling. Let's say if you mess up on a track it does have a handy rewind feature, I will also say that the rubber banding isn't as noticeable as in Mario Kart. There is also pit stops you can make if you damage you race car too much. I would try to utilize these as selectively as possible.
Controls are responsive and customizable. The game supports:
Joy-Cons (single or dual)
Nintendo Switch Pro Controller
Hori Racing Wheel
Even GameCube controllers
There’s also a rumble feature that adds extra feedback while driving, enhancing immersion.
Game Modes
Grid Autosport comes packed with a wide range of modes:
Sprint races
Circuit races
Demolition derby
Checkpoint mode (time-based challenges through flares on longer tracks)
The game also includes tracks from around the world, like Dubai, Paris, Chicago, and more.
Graphics & Performance
Graphically, Grid is one of the best-looking racers on the Switch. You can choose between:
Graphics Mode (higher resolution visuals)
Performance Mode (smoother framerate)
Battery Saver Mode (ideal for handheld play)
There’s also a free high-resolution texture pack available to enhance car detail.
Price & Storage
Price: $34.99 USD (often discounted during sales)
Download Size: ~6.5GB (plus optional texture pack)
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Excellent variety of cars and tracks
- Realistic driving experience
- Supports multiple controller types
- Great value for the price
- Local and online multiplayer options
Cons
- Online matchmaking is mostly inactive (except leaderboards)
- High difficulty curve for newcomers or casual players

Final Thoughts
Grid Autosport is a hidden gem on the Switch for racing fans who want something deeper than Mario Kart. It’s not without its flaws — especially the inactive online scene — but as a single-player or local multiplayer experience, it shines. I just wish there were more real sim racing games on Nintendo Switch.
Rating: 7/10
If you enjoy realistic racing games and want a great portable experience, Grid Autosport is a solid choice worth your time.
